Caption Ideas/Suggestions

Nearly 20,000 people work at factories that supply Adidas.

85% of them are women.

From the start these women have been in the frontline of Myanmar’s fight for freedom from the violent military junta.

By standing together, unarmed, we challenge the power. Because we are the power.

Adidas, Myanmar protesters run with you: will you run with us?

Join Myanmar in our dream about Freedom: support & protect Myanmar garment workers.

Offer background and a plea

In February 2021, the Myanmar military staged a coup d'etat, illegally and violently overthrowing the elected government, and shattering the dreams of many across the country. Major brands sourcing garments from Myanmar factories have been largely silent about the plight of their workers. Adidas sources garments from six factories within Myanmar. These factories employ 19,869 people, of whom 17,251 are women. While Adidas has made statements we ask them to do more. Make an ongoing show of support by releasing statements in Burmese and encourage other brands with presence in Myanmar to follow suit.

Dear Beyoncé, as an Adidas partner, would you raise your voice on behalf of these garment workers, most of whom are women?

Use a quote from a garment worker

“This is the time for brands to help the workers of Myanmar, because workers and our country need democracy.”

– Moe Sandar Myint, Myanmar garment union organizer

“If there were rights violations before in factories, then under a military regime there is no question that things will be even worse for garment workers with low-wage jobs. This is a fight I must take on."

- Ma Tin Tin Wei, garment factory worker

“This might end with my blood being spilled, but I won’t stop now.”

– Moe Sandar Myint, Myanmar garment union organizer

“I am not OK without receiving my wages but I need to do some sort of sacrifice in the short term for the long term for our next generation"

- Tin Tin Wei, garment worker

“We need international brands to step forward and tell factory owners to unequivocally respect workers’ rights to assemble and freedom of expression.”

- Moe Sandar Myint Myanmar garment union organizer

Ask Beyoncé to make a solidarity post with Myanmar

Here are some ideas to get you started!

Dear Beyoncé,

Horrible things are happening in Myanmar right now. Would you speak up for our sisters and brothers there and help raise awareness of the atrocities happening? We’d be forever grateful!

Dear Beyoncé,

Would you make a social media post in solidarity with Myanmar? You have a powerful voice to support them, and your encouragement would mean the world.

People in #Myanmar are under attack by a violent military regime. For nearly two months now, Myanmar people have been staging powerful, creative protests across the country, including a massive general strike in the government sectors.

Here’s how you and I can help the people of Myanmar right now: Did you know that Adidas sources garments from Myanmar? Well, since Beyoncé is an Adidas partner, we’re asking her to stand in support of the people of Myanmar right now.

Ask people in your network to share, and to sign these petitions on behalf of garment workers. Put the links in your bio:

Beyoncé has visited Myanmar before, and we want to remind her of what an incredible place Myanmar is. We want to ask her to support her Myanmar fans during this nightmare. Sign the petition at the link in my profile, and help make some noise for Myanmar!

The power of this campaign comes from three things

1) A unified appeal asking Beyoncé and Adidas to stand up for garment workers, and to stand with Myanmar

2) Reminding Beyoncé and the world that Myanmar is a wonderful place

3) Each of us making our posts a little bit unique, writing Beyoncé personal appeals for Myanmar

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for posting and making noise for Myanmar!

If you are outside Myanmar, please come visit us when this nightmare has ended. We would love to see you.

Thank You!
